What StudyBrain does, and what it doesn’t

We would rather you knew exactly what you are buying before you spend £49. Here it is, plainly.

What StudyBrain is

StudyBrain is a kit of files and guides that turns Claude, the AI assistant made by Anthropic, into a study system built around your child's actual subjects, exam board and class notes. Subject tutors, quizzing, marking against real mark schemes, revision planning, and a routine for turning photographed class notes into study material.

The kit is a one-off purchase, and it is yours to keep: the files live on your computer and your licence does not expire. We keep the kit working when Claude changes underneath it; the details of our update commitment are in our Terms of Sale. Your purchase also includes a year of The Common Room, our members-only library where new prompts, seasonal packs and walkthroughs land. After the first year The Common Room is £12 a year; we email you before any renewal, and cancelling takes a couple of clicks. That is the only StudyBrain subscription there is, and the kit never depends on it.

You need your own Claude subscription

StudyBrain runs on Claude, and Claude is not included. You need a paid Claude subscription, bought separately from Anthropic at their price. We are independent of Anthropic: no partnership, no commission, no control over their pricing or features. If Anthropic changes Claude, we adapt the kit as best we can, but their decisions are theirs.

One thing to be clear-eyed about: your Claude account is yours, not ours. It is your agreement with Anthropic, under their rules. If Anthropic ever suspends an account for breaking those rules, we cannot step in and we cannot get it back for you, because we are not part of that account. It is one more reason the account belongs to a parent. Use Claude responsibly and the question never comes up.

A parent runs it

Claude's terms require account holders to be 18 or over. StudyBrain is designed for a parent to run. You operate it, your teenager gets the output. Anthropic can suspend accounts that don't comply.

So the setup, and the account, belong to you. Your teenager sits with you, tells it their subjects, and gets the study sheets, quizzes, marked answers and revision plans. If you are 18 or over and studying for yourself, you are simply both people at once.

It will not do their homework

This is the point of StudyBrain, not a limitation of it. The kit is built Socratic-first: it quizzes, marks, explains and plans. Asked to just write the essay, it coaches instead. Coursework and non-examined assessments (NEAs) are given the strongest protection we can build: StudyBrain is designed never to write, draft or edit them, because that work must be the student's own and the exam boards are unforgiving about it.

Two honest caveats. First, this is a design, not a padlock: StudyBrain is a set of instructions, the files are editable by you, and no instruction given to an AI is impossible to get around. Second, every school, college and university sets its own rules on AI use, and following them is your family's responsibility. If the school's policy is stricter than our design, the school wins.

It does not guarantee grades

Nobody can promise your child a grade, and we won't. What we can tell you is what StudyBrain does: structured retrieval practice, marking against real mark schemes, revision built from their own notes, and a tutor that never gets tired or judgemental at 9pm before a mock. Those are the methods that evidence on study technique supports. What your child gets out depends on what they put in.

It does not replace teachers

StudyBrain supports what happens in the classroom, it does not compete with it. The teacher sets the standard, sees the whole picture, and outranks the AI. We build that into the kit: AI can be wrong, confidently wrong, and the kit tells students to take conflicts to their teacher, whose answer wins.

It is not a counsellor

StudyBrain is a study coach. It is built to recognise when a conversation is drifting somewhere serious, stop, and point the student to a trusted adult and the appropriate UK helplines. Please never rely on it, or any AI, as support for a young person in difficulty.

What it costs, compared with what it replaces

Private tutoring in the UK typically runs £30 to £50 an hour, commonly £300 or more a month for one subject. StudyBrain is £49 once, including your first year of The Common Room (£12 a year after that, cancel any time), plus the Claude subscription you pay Anthropic directly. We think that comparison is the whole argument, and it is a comparison of prices, not a promise of identical results.

Your family's data stays yours

StudyBrain runs entirely on your own computer. Nothing your child types, photographs or produces is ever sent to us. We only ever know the name and email you bought with. Full details in our Privacy Policy.
